agave plant

the power of agave sweetener

Young Living Blue Agave is an organic nectar from the Agave Tequilana species.  The nectar is a natural low-glycemic sweetener for foods and beverages. This organic Blue Agave is sweeter than sugar, but with a glycemic index of only 11. Sugar has a glycemic index of 69-85. In recipes, use 1/2 to 3/4 cup in place of 1 cup of sugar. You may also need to reduce the amount of liquid, just as you would for honey.

Harvesting Agave Sweetener

Young Living's Agave is organically grown, kosher certified. It is harvested by hand using  a round disc on a handle similar to a garden hoe. It is used to cut the  heart or the Pina of the cactus. The plant is then chopped, ground and pressed to extract juices. The fluid is a viscous fluid that reminds one of honey.

The Blue Agave is filtered using a triple cold filter process followed by a gentle heating filtration process. Low temperature processing is the key to the quality of the Agave. The Agave Tequilana plant products are processed in a stainless steel facility that meets American health requirements.

Young Living Agave is a perfect for all ages. Agave sweetener is a moderate alternative sweetener for people with blood sugar problems, for infants and the elderly. Blend it in the Young Living Power Meal Shake, salad dressings, deserts and so forth whenever a sweetener is wanted. (Photo courtesy of Komo3030, Wikimedia Commons)

Many of the artificial sweeteners such as high fructose corn syrup have been linked to obesity and associated with scarring in the liver. The Young Living Agave and a companion product called Stevia are products of choice without the side effects and extreme acid PH conditions that may result from other sweeteners.

agave and seniorsPeople with sugar concerns have asked if YLEO Agave spikes glucose levels, affects liver enzyme function, or creates allergies or Candida.

Dr. Gary Young says,  “It does not, nor does it create brain fog, hormonal fluctuation or fatigue.” These would be concerns when eating white sugar, corn syrups or artificial sweeteners. (Photo courtesy of FlickreviewR, Wikimedia Commons)

Young Living and their partners steward the land. They do not harvest all of the Agave plants at one time and continually replant the cactus. Dr. Young sends his assistants to the farm and the facility to insure that the harvesting, processing and the end product meets the YLEO standards.  Furthering testing is being done on Agave and will be presented at the upcoming Young Living Conference.
